In 2016 I was commissioned (along with two other authors) by Rough Guides to work on the fifth edition of their book on Switzerland, one of my favourite countries, and one which I had written about before (Landmark Publishing’s Visitor’s Guide Ticino, 2000) and have written about since (Cicerone’s Walking in Ticino).
Using the original text for previous editions (by Matthew Teller) as a base, I updated the Basics and Contexts sections, and the chapters on the cities of Geneva and Lausanne; then I researched the Alpine regions that make up the southern part of the country, namely the Bernese Oberland, the Valais, the Graubünden, the Ticino and the shores and mountain hinterland of Lake Geneva. The book was published in June 2017.
More recently I have worked on updates to the Seventh edition (published in October 2025).

I took a number of photos during my trips to Switzerland for the 2016 book and these are presented in the galleries below; each photo is linked to the relevant page in the seventh edition of the guide.
