Brief Lives

Brief Lives is a dark comedy that would  make for an ideal small-scale production for youth theatre groups or schools, and is especially suitable for GCSE drama productions.

The play is set in a dead-end seaside resort and focuses on two boys, one of whom, Alex, discovers the elderly lady he has been caring for has died alone in her filthy house. The cast comprises two boys (aged 12), one older boy (aged around 17), and one elderly woman. The running time is 45 minutes.

This play won the Scottish Community Drama Association’s award for new writing for youth theatre in 2002; its subsequent performances have included a production at the East 17 Theatre School in Essex, directed by the actress Alison Steadman.

The play is published by Lazybee scripts and can be read in full, and downloaded for printing, by following this link: Lazybee Scripts
