Blood Royal

Blood Royal is a stage play for schools and youth theatre groups set around the tragic but compelling story of Richard III and the Princes in the Tower.

This play is set in medieval England, in the year 1483. A boy makes a friend: a kitchen girl in his castle. But when his father, Edward IV, suddenly passes away and the boy becomes King of England, young Beth becomes part of one of the darkest and most mysterious episodes in English history. As the boy’s uncle, Richard of Gloucester, sets his sights on the throne, will Beth be able to do more than be a spectator to the fate of Edward and his younger brother, the Princes in the Tower?

The cast of characters of this two-act historical play for children includes both historical figures and fictional characters (casting requirements: 5-15 females, 12-40 males; anywhere between 17 and 55 performers is possible with doubling of roles).

The play is published by YouthPLAYS, a California-based company. Follow this link to their website, which contains more information, and an extract from the play.
The play is also published in book form.
